BELATED REWIND by Don Diefes

It took 10 years for us to be able to write “Don and Don are the Champs again.” My how things have changed, just 1 short year later and we get to write it again… DON and DON are Champs, again! For the longest time Don D had to be carried on the shoulders of his partner Don M, but for the past couple of years Don M has barely had to carry bait. In 2010, Don D shocked the tournament with a 5lb 13oz lunker that basically won the thing by itself.  This year Don D yanked 24 trout from their cool water hideouts and propelled Don and Don to their 3rd championship.  The Podium: Don and Don with 6lbs 7oz, Lou and Rob with 5lbs 9oz, and “The Kid” and “Papoo” with 5lbs even. Rounding out the top 5 were the teams of Bart & Art and Todd & Mark with 2lbs 2oz each. Taking the lunker with a 12oz rainbow was newcomer Todd Leathers.  Another newcomer to the tournament, Mike “The Hammer” Rowe, showed his prowess on the stream that he grew up fishing, by being part of the first team in D&D fishing history to record a negative number on the weigh-in board.   -3oz, thus claiming the Skunk King trophy!

Of course there had to be some controversy.  A few anglers could have sworn that they had seen a smaller than average fellow tagging along with the team of “The Kid” and “Papoo”… They described him as hairless and elf-like…. hmmm.  Also troubling “The Kid” and “Papoo” was the fact that a few of their fish were borderline illegal. If not for the senility of the director and buffoonery of the ASSistant director, we feel there might have been a disqualification. ALSO, there is a rumor that “The Kid” was not in possession of a valid New Jersey fishing license. Strike 3! The tournament staff will now be launching a full investigation.

We are gearing up for a great 2012! Look forward to seeing you on the water.
